Water Conservation Tips for Boondockers
- Navy shower: Wet down, turn off water, soap up, rinse. Uses 1–2 gallons vs. 8–10 for a normal shower.
- Pump sprayer for dishes: A $10 garden pump sprayer rinses dishes with a fraction of the water.
- Paper plates when convenient: Reduces dishwashing water significantly.
- Pre-rinse with gray water: Collect the water you used to rinse a cup and use it to pre-rinse your next dish.
- Check for drips: A dripping faucet can waste a gallon or more per day.
- External water bladder: Portable bladder tanks (7–30 gal) can double your capacity when you refill in town.
- Find water sources: Many BLM areas have water spigots; apps like iOverlander and FreeCampsites.net mark them.
